Shahid Aslam Appointed Batting Coach for Pakistan National Teams

Shahid Aslam has been appointed as the batting coach of Pakistan’s white-ball teams by the PCB, taking over the role from Mohammad Yousuf. Aaqib Javed was also appointed as interim head coach, leading into the ICC Champions Trophy. Aslam has extensive experience with the national team and has recently worked at the High Performance Centre.

The Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) has reinstated Shahid Aslam as the batting coach for the national white-ball teams, according to a report by the Press Trust of India (PTI) on Tuesday. Shahid Aslam, a qualified coach, has previously served with the Pakistan team in several roles, including assistant coach and fielding coach. Most recently, he has been engaged in coaching at the High Performance Centre in Lahore for the past two years. Prior to Shahid’s appointment, Mohammad Yousuf, a former Test captain, held the position of batting coach for the national team but subsequently transitioned to a national selector role. However, Yousuf stepped down from both positions and has been working at the High Performance Centre. His recent resignation from the HPC was rejected by the PCB. Shahid Aslam’s return to the squad comes on the recommendation of Aaqib Javed, who was appointed interim white-ball head coach. The PCB recently appointed Aaqib Javed as the white-ball head coach until the ICC Champions Trophy scheduled for early next year. This decision follows Australian coach Jason Gillespie’s decline of the all-format coaching position. Aaqib, who will also maintain his role as the senior national selector, has joined the national players for their upcoming series against Zimbabwe, which includes three One Day Internationals and three T20 Internationals, before they proceed to South Africa for additional matches.

The Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) has been making significant changes in its coaching staff to enhance team performance in white-ball formats. The recent appointment of Shahid Aslam as the batting coach reflects a strategic move to leverage his coaching experience with the national team. The role of the batting coach is critical, especially in preparing the players for upcoming international matches. The PCB’s decision follows a series of transitions in the coaching positions, including the resignation of Mohammad Yousuf and the hiring of Aaqib Javed as the interim coach.

In summary, Shahid Aslam’s appointment as the batting coach for the Pakistan white-ball teams marks a notable shift in the team’s coaching structure as they prepare for international competitions. His experience within the team framework is expected to contribute positively to player development. The PCB’s leadership under Aaqib Javed aims to create a focused environment for the players as they embark on a challenging series in Zimbabwe and beyond.
