He commenced his Jesuit formation at the Novitiate in Córdoba in 2001, subsequently undertaking studies in philosophy at the Faculty of Theology of Uruguay and theology at the Centre Sèvres in Paris. He holds both a Master’s and Doctorate in Canon Law and Philosophy of Law from Université Paris II, Institut Catholique de Paris, and Universidad Católica Argentina (UCA). Ordained in 2010 by Bishop Nicolás Cotugno at the Church of the Sacred Heart in Montevideo, Fr. Álvaro has held various significant roles, including Director of the Department of Philosophy, Dean of Law, and Vice-Rector for University Environment at the Catholic University of Uruguay from 2011 to 2021. He also served as the Parish Administrator of Nuestra Señora de Fátima in Montevideo from 2014 to 2018, and since 2012, he has been a Judge of the Ecclesiastical Tribunal of the Archdiocese of Montevideo. He currently fulfills the role of Rector at the Seminary College in Montevideo and leads its community.
